Welcome!

Are you worried about a child, teen, or family?

Well, you made it! You are here and have made the first step toward discovering a way forward.

Are you a parent who is worried about your child? Maybe they’re having problems at school or your family is experiencing ongoing challenges. Or you may be a family member raising a child within the family. Perhaps it feels more overwhelming at times than you’d hoped.

You may be a professional who is concerned about a family, child, or young person. Have you tried helping them to access services without much progress? Sometimes there are barriers to accessing services due to the complexities of the situation, such as within adoptive families or in foster care.

How about some “helpful help”?

As an adoptive parent, I know what it’s like to have all sorts of help offered, only to find it ineffective. I felt what we needed most was some “helpful help.” Through many years of working with children and families, along with learning from my own family, I have found flexible and effective ways of reaching young people and families living in complex circumstances. Circumstances such as not readily accessing services outside the home, a child’s significant care needs, or developmental trauma may impact whether families can access support. Sometimes barriers come in the form of emotional defences, with families unable to trust professionals due to past systemic trauma. Other factors such as neurodiversity, intellectual or physical disability, and illness can impact access to “helpful help.”
